6 th Grade English Ms. Cox

Urban Dictionary.com: Respect means valuing each others’ points of views. It means being open to being wrong. It means accepting people as they are. It means not dumping on someone because you're having a bad day. It means being polite and kind always, because being kind to people is not negotiable. It means not dissing people because they're different from you. It means not gossiping about people or spreading lies. Dictionary.com: Esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability. Example: I have great respect for her judgment.

R ESPECT THE T EACHER. Follow directions the first time. R ESPECT O THERS. Keep language and actions polite, encouraging and school-appropriate. Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself. R ESPECT THE C ONTENT. Be on task and engaged. R ESPECT THE L EARNING. Bring your materials to class every day… that means pencil, paper, and binder. R ESPECT S CHOOL P OLICY. Electronics will be turned off and out of sight.

Follow directions the first time they are given. Raise your hand when you want to speak. Stay in your seat during direct instruction. Give respect to get respect.

Keep language and actions polite, encouraging and school-appropriate. Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself. Do not distract others by moving around during learning time. Give positive feedback!

Be on task and engaged during instruction and work times. Take charge of your learning! Active learners are the most successful. Turn work in on time. Make up missed work. Be on time for class, every day!

Bring pencil, paper and binder every day to class. These are YOUR learning materials. Treat them respectfully, please. Don’t waste supplies. Be careful with books. Gum goes in the trash, not under tables. If you break something that is mine, you will be expected to replace it! My desk/computer area are off-limits. Enter only with my permission!

Electronics are to be off and out of sight (unless being used for a specific learning activity). Cell phones will be collected by me, taken to the office, and available for pickup after school. Hall passes are required. Update Falcon Facilitators every Monday, every class.

You will make mistakes. It’s ok… we’re all learners! Set goals, and know that you can reach them. Set boundaries with those who are disrespectful. Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself. Just do it respectfully. Be able to say “I’m sorry” whenever you need to.

Put your first and last name, period, and date at the top of every assignment. Late work: Ten points will be taken off late assignments. Missing assignments will count as a zero until they are turned in. Absent work is your responsibility. See me before or after class to find out what you have missed. Clean up materials/supplies before class ends. (I may be a Mom, but I’m not your Mom!)

Verbal warning After-class conference Detention and parent contact Office referral 1st 2nd 3rd 4th

1.Positive notes and calls to parent 2.Treats and prizes 3. Extra privileges 4.Extra credit/points added to lowest grade 5.Respect and admiration

I’m so excited to get to know you this year. We are going to learn things, create things and work very hard. We’re also going to have fun. Please feel free to share your successes or anything that is bothering you… I’m always ready to listen! We are a classroom family, and this is our story. We can write it any way we choose!
