Regions of Slovakia
Bratislava Region Bratislava is a capital city of Slovakia. This region is the smallest region in Slovakia. Bratislava Castle (built in 9 th century) is a famous tourist showplace. Bratislava is near of river Danube.
Trnava Region This region has the least count of population. Trnava is called „Slovak Roma“ or „Little Roma“. Žitný ostrov (Rye Island) is a river island in southwestern Slovakia and biggest source of drink water in Middle Europe.
Trenčín Region Tourists are attracted to many cultural and historical sites such as Beckov, Čachtice and Bojnice. Favorite targets for a visitors are spas in Trenčianske Teplice, Nimnica and in Bojnice. There are the birthplace of Ľudovít Štúr in Uhrovec and mound of M.R. Stefanik at the top Bradlo.
Nitra Region Nitra became the capital of the Principality of Nitra (5 th century), the oldest known independent state in the present-day Slovakia. In Nitra is the famous theatre of Andrej Bagar.
Žilina Region In Martin city seats Matica slovenská (from 1863). Hyundai and Kia Motors are located near Žilina.
Banská Bystrica Region This region is the largest region in Slovakia. In Zvolen is Zvolen Castle and Pustý hrad (it was the largest castle in the Middle Europe).
Prešov Region This region has the biggest count of population. In High Tatras is the highest point in Slovakia – Gerlachovský štít (2 654 m).
Košice Region Very famous place in this region is Slovak Paradise. There are many caves and waterfalls.
