Tex t Divergent Series-ABC Book By: Ruby Hawks
Amity Amity is one of the five factions. Their main motive is to have a world with no aggression. Johanna Reyes is their so called leader.
Brother Tris's brother Caleb betrayed her and because of his guilt he offered to die to set the memory serum off throughout the pure-gened facility.
Candor Candor is one of the five factions. They see the world in black and white and believe that everyone should be an open book. Their leader is Jack Kang.
Dauntless Dauntless is one of the five factions. Their main motive is to be courageous. Eric is the leader if this faction until later in the series when he is executed by the three new leaders: Tobias, Tori, and Harrison. Dauntless are also split in half by beliefs so some side with the Erudite and some side with the factionless, when war comes their way.
Erudite Erudite is one of the five factions. Their main motive is to being smart thinking things out. They eventually, basically, wage war on Abnegation. Their leader is Jeannie Matthews.
Four Four is a nickname for Tobias because he only has four fears. He is Tris's boyfriend and instructor. You get to experience his part of the story in parts of the last book. He and Tris go through a lot together.
Groups Groups or factions are soon known as a way for "damaged" genes to live. Children at sixteen were to choose their own lifestyle. People late find out that it was an easy way to keep track of the pure-gene's experiment.
High-tech The instruments that the pure-gened use are very high- tech as are the tall glass buildings their facility is staged in.
Inevitable The scientist of the pure-gened facility thought that the idea of Chicago being mind-wiped was inevitable, they wouldn't think of any other options.
Jazz Up People were jazzed up during stimulations. Whether that be during initiation, fear landscapes, interrogations, the war. They got this way through serums.
Know by Heart I know many parts of the book by heart, Veronica Roth makes them hard to forget
Love Love is what Tobias and Tris are fighting for and the main reason she realizes that Caleb can not die out of guilt. I think this is also one of Roth's themes to fight for love and what you believe in.
Memory Serum Amanda, one of Tris ancestor, underwent the memory serum as did many others to start the "damaged"-gened experiment. Getting the memory serum in the Weapons Lab was the whole reason everything ended up the way it did in the end.
Neglected The fringe outside of the pure-gened facility was neglected and thrown around by soldiers just because they were "below them".
Outside A band of the Allegiant went outside the gates of their city to help the outsiders but they learned the true truth about the truth.
Pure-Gened Pure-gened people on the outside had experimented with people's genes trying to make the world a better place. (It didn't work) it resulted in separation in which they thought was the key and waited outside, secretly, for the time of Divergence.
Quaint Many buildings out in the Abnegation part of Chicago were quaint fashioned and Chicago was quaint compared to the outside world.
Ruffled I was very ruffled by the way Roth made feel like I was the character in the story. I was also ruffled when an unexpected death happened.
Selflessness Being selfless is the Abnegation's main motive. They were the leaders of governing the factions. Their leader is Marcus Eaton Later the Erudite killed most of them off for power and because they wanted to keep the dark secret Abnegation was going to share.
Tris Tris is the main character. Her boyfriend is Tobias. I got to know Tris pretty well through reading from her perspective most of the story. When she experiences a hardship it feels like I have, too.
Uprising Many uprisings occurred throughout the story including the factionless rebellion under Evelyn, and the Allegiant uprising under Cara.
Veiled All of the people inside the experiment cities were veiled from the truth and the outside world.
War Erudite killed off most of Abnegation resulting in a war and the sectionalism of factions and the Dauntless faction. The factionless eventually brought up their version of peace because of fighting and killing.
eXact I think that Veronica Roth is also trying to get it into the readers that no one has to be an exact copy. You get to choose who you want to be.
You Can Change Peter had been a very bad boy but he learned that he could be good and did whatever he did to get there. Evelyn was the nasty leader of the factionless but given the choice between starting another war and being with her son, Tobias, she chose her son. This developed peace.
Zealous Roth's writing style made me eager to finish the book but at the same time not to because it would mean ending this amazing book. I wanted to know what would happens so bad I was almost tempted to look ahead a few times.
