Bathing Without A Battle
Presentation transcript:

Hygiene in the Elizabethan Era By: Sara Blessing

Bathing They Bathed in cold water, if they wanted it heated they put it over the fire to warm it up. Wooden barrels is what was used to be bathed in. In the Medieval Castle simple bathrooms were added. Lower Class would only bathe a few times a year. Upper Class bathed every couple of weeks. The water used was unsanitary to drink. the-middle-ages Image from- ?imgurl

Brushing the Teeth To brush their teeth they used a cloth to keep them clean. If there was a bad tooth it was simply pulled out, but back then there were no pain killers. Mixture of herbs and ashes of burnt rosemary were used to help clean the teeth. hygiene.htmhttp:// hygiene.htm Image from-

Toilets For the Upper Class, Kings and Queens had a closet like room with a hole in the floor as a toilet. For the Middle Class, if they could afford a servant they had vessel bowls that the servants held under them to go to the bathroom. Lower Class just had vessel bowls and when they were done they would dump it out the window onto the roads. Image from- gres?imgurl

Hair Hair washing was done separate from bathing. The hair got better treatment as far as keeping it clean. There was no shampoo and conditioners so they added lye soap to clean their hair. abethan-hygiene.htmlhttp:// abethan-hygiene.html Image from-
