Aquariums and Global Issues  History of focusing on global issues  The Ocean Project Market Research:  Zoos and Aquariums are seen as one of the most trusted sources of conservation information  We are expected to provide guidance on conservation actions

North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher  Inspiring appreciation and conservation of North Carolina’s aquatic environments

$580,000 NOAA Award Marine mammal institute Portable GeoDome theater Exhibit upgrade for NCAFF Using Marine Mammals to Communicate Solutions to Ocean Issues

GOAL 1: Host Marine Mammal Institute for 32 informal educators with access to underserved audiences in North Carolina over two consecutive years. GOAL 3: Provide a minimum of 32 special events, targeting underserved audiences, which highlight impacts of climate change on marine mammals and propose positive actions to reduce these impacts, using innovative GeoDome experiences.

Community Outreach GOAL 2: Develop interpretive activities using marine mammals to communicate impacts of climate change, increase ocean literacy, and propose positive action among audiences in free choice learning environments. GOAL 4: Generate animation, incorporate unique marine mammal data and video footage, and integrate climate imagery into GeoDome programming for target audiences. GOAL 5: Upgrade existing marine mammal exhibit at NCAFF with emerging technology to incorporate climate change effects, increase ocean literacy, and propose positive behavior change; incorporate new GeoDome programming into existing SOS and Ocean Today exhibits at NCAPKS and NCARI.
