THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF DIABETIC PATIENTS COORDINATOR: Asst. Prof. Dr. PASCA MARIA DORINA AUTHOR: SPIRCHEZ GEORGIANA RALISA COAUTHOR: MARIN ARGYRIOU DIMITRIOS MIHANOS GRAMA ARMINA -MARISIENSIS 2014-

GENERAL INFORMATIONS: Diabetes mellitus (DM) or simply diabetes, is a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar (high glycemia). This high blood sugar produces the symptoms of polyuria, polydipsia, and polyphagia. Diabetes is due to either the pancreas not producing enough insulin, or because cells of the body do not respond properly to the insulin that is produced. -MARISIENSIS 2014-

Within the field of healthcares, quality of life is often regarded in terms of how it is negatively affected, on an individual level, a debilitating weakness that is not life-threatening, life-threatening illness, terminal illness, the predictable, natural decline in the health of an elder, an unforeseen mental/physical decline of a loved one, chronic, end-stage disease processes. -MARISIENSIS 2014-

THE QUALITY OF LIFE: Under such identities as the previous, the patients: start to lose slowly but surely, the certitude that they still hold a role in the community to which they relate feel the effect of rejection existing at the beginning in the micro group, extending afterwards to the entire society. -MARISIENSIS 2014-

PURPOSE & OBJECTIVES: This paper captures how diabetes affects the quality of life of patients. The study establishes a relationship between the patient’s level of intervention on diabetes and implications of the disease in patients lifes. -MARISIENSIS 2014-

MATERIAL & METHODS: Our study has been done on 50 diabetic patients, men and women, aged 25 to over 75 years old, from rural and also urban areas. We used the conversation, observation and a questionnaire comprising 10 questions referring to patient’s quality of life on physical, mental and social plan. -MARISIENSIS 2014-

QUESTIONNAIRE:

RESULTS: The answers of the 10 questions from the questionnaire

RESULTS: The quality of life is most affected to the population group aged over 70 years (26%), followed by ages years (10%), then the group aged years and years (4%), the last place occupied being the population group aged years and years (2%).

RESULTS: The quality of life of diabetic women is affected at a rate of 58%, while the proportion of men is 42%.

RESULTS: The quality of life of diabetic patients is affected more intense in rural areas (66%) than urban areas (34%)

RESULTS: Our study shows that only 20% of the 50 patients we interrogated, have superior studies (faculty), while 34% of them have done a vocational school, 18% of them have been to post-highscool classes, 14% have done the college, 10% finished the highschool and 4% of them have only 4 years of studies.

RESULTS: Only 44% from the 50 patients we interrogated are having a job: 16% are state employees, 14% are private employees and 14% are entrepreneurs. The rest of 56% don’t have a job: 8% are appliances, 14% are retired because of a disease and 34% are retired on age limit.

RESULTS: Our study shows that all the patients have weight problems:

CONCLUSIONS: Diabetes mellitus has implication in the quality of life of patients, but closely related to their level of education, the environment in which they live, their age and level of acceptance and understanding of the disease. -MARISIENSIS 2014-

Thank you… -MARISIENSIS 2014-
