2 Acknowledgements I would like to first thank my parents for all of the support they have given me, emotionally and financially, through the past five years. Without them I would not be where I am today. I would also like to thank Brandon for being so supportive during the past year and for understanding that this was one of my goals for our future. I would finally like to thank all those who have helped me along the way. Friends and Family who have listened to me talk endlessly about my project, and Professors who have contributed to my successes while attending Texas Tech. To All, Thank You!
3 Abstract Theory Statement The blending and integration of architecture through the use of contemporary building vocabulary with characteristics of the historical context of its surroundings can create a building that respects and responds to the context and will maintain current architectural styles into the styles that will be in our future. Facility Statement The project is a multiple use complex that will contain residential housing, retail spaces, a restaurant and a movie theatre along with other entertainment venues that will invite the community to reinhabit downtown. Context Statement The Project is located in Marshall, Texas in East Texas. Founded in 1841, Marshall was named the county seat of Harrison County in 1842 with an area of one square mile with the historical courthouse at the center. Marshall has grown to include over twenty historically significant structures within its city limits.
