Hérnando Cortés’s Background He was born in Spain, Medellin. He had a cousin that was also an explorer called Francisco Pissarro. When Hérnando was little he was poor. When he grew up he wanted to be rich so he started to think of himself of something he was not. When he was thirteen he went to school and was expelled because of murder. He went to prison and then he came out 20 years later. He decided to be an explorer because he was inspired by Christopher Columbus. So he set out to find a country.

The Journey On the way he had a fleet of 200 people. He was in charge of all of them except one called Diego Velázquez. They were two leaders on that ship. Their journey took 10 months. When they first saw land it was new land now called Haiti (The Dominican Republic). They set off 100 of their people to create a civilization. The the kept sailing and came to Mexico. They walked for 1 month and found the Aztecs and they retreated to America then came back a year later. They attacked the Aztecs and won the battle. Later he got his title he was a…Conquistador.

His Death Hérnando settled in at the Aztec empire. Then he was in his castle then he was assassinated by 5 people. All his people fled to their ships. On the way the went to Haiti to get their crew but all they found was bones and rotten flesh. When they came back there was only 24 people left of the fleet.

Leadership He was showing leadership when he made the decision to attack the Aztecs. This was brave because he had to control 200 people. During the battle he was trying to get to the Aztecs leader when he was shot with dozens of arrows. He was vey lucky that he didn’t die. He succeeded and killed the Aztec leader. He was also showing leadership when he said they should retreat because their was another army there so they attacked later. They would have died because they were trading so they were all in amour. When he attacked it was unexpected.
