What Scribd does: Scribd describes itself as, “the largest social publishing company in the world.” ( Its site allows anyone with a profile to upload original writings and documents from almost any file type- PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel. From these files, Scribd creates web documents that can then be shared worldwide.

How scribd works: 1.Create a profile – so that you can share your work, manage documents, create reading lists, rate others’ writings, and more

2. Publish instantly – upload your work, which can immediately be share with others

3. Build a community – Scribd works similarly to other social networking sites. You subscribe to people, publishers and companies with similar interests, they will subscribe to you, and you rate each others’ work.

4. Discover newly published works – browse content that was published by people you’re following, content that interests you, is related to your work, etc.

Viewers can preview, share, purchase, and rate your works.

Benefits of Scribd A free account on Scribd gives you the ability to share documents across numerous file formats, worldwide. Scribd makes it easy to share documents, ebooks, or other content. People viewing your profile can easily see all of your documents, search for your most popular ones, and those for sale.

An overview of your profile allows you to see: How many documents have been uploaded Number of subscribers How many people have read your works Your documents that have been made a feature on Scribd

Why use ? Scribd’s goal is to break down the barriers of publishing and make content more readily available, via the internet, in an effort to fuel the conversations happening around works. The appeal of Scribd is that, “works published on the site are accessible to the community of readers, indexed by search engines, and easily embedded and shared on thousands of other Websites, including Twitter and Facebook.” ( Your Scribd account can be linked to, viewers who are not logged in to the site can still preview, purchase, and share your content, as well as read reviews. It is an excellent way to build links and increase your online presence.
