ALLEGORY – LOTF

Ideologies A system of ideas and ideals Especially one that forms the basis of an economic or political party The ideas and manner thinking of a group (i.e. characteristics)

The Simpsons vs. The Novel Did they like the version? What’s different about this episode from the novel? How like the novel does the episode portray civilization and humanity? If you could apply the ideologies of some societies (democracy, dictatorship, militant) which characters would you label as what and why?

Allegory Allegory: a story, picture or poem that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one (i.e. an extended metaphor) Can you think of any modern movies

Batman & Allegory It would be a mistake to say The Dark Knight is just a comic book movie. No, this is a cold look at post-9/11 America and how we view right and wrong in a world gone mad. And with a plot that analyzes everything from torture to wiretapping, the allegory is thick.

LOTF & Allegory Looking back at our lesson on themes in LOTF, how does Piggy function as an allegory? (What is Golding trying to convey to you the audience) The loss of innocence succumbing to the darkness of the boys savagery (Knowledge and Wisdom is lost) “Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart, and the fall through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy” (225).
