Presentation transcript:

This presentation is intended to offer a set of activity cards, which are ideal for introducing the Robolab. The cards cover a range of basic skills, that are essential to acquire before embarking upon the lesson plans. It is suggested that the cards are laminated and used incidentally throughout the school day. These activity ideas were generated by a team of teachers, in Torfaen, during a training day. Teacher Notes Available

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 1 Make the Robot spin on the spot Make the Robot spin on the spot for 15 seconds Make the Robot spin anti clockwise Make the Robot spin clockwise Make the Robot turn through 360° Make the Robot turn from South to East clockwise How long does it take the Robot to turn a full circle? How long does it take the robot to turn 5 full circles?

Take Control Activity Card Pilot level 2 Make the robot move in a straight line. Make the robot move forward for 20. Make the robot reverse for 8 seconds. Make the robot spin on the spot with the light on for 6 seconds. Make the robot stop when it touches something. Make the Robot travel round a circle once. Make the light come on without moving the robot. Make the light come on for 6 seconds. How much further does the robot travel at speed 5 than speed 1? How far can the robot travel in 5 seconds? Is there more than one answer? Predict what the robot will do. Were you right? (screen shots) Language Special Needs Activities Programme the robot to develop prepositional language.

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 3 Make the robot travel forward, hit an object and return to its starting position. Make the robot travel forwards with the light on and the back with the light off continuously. Can you make the robot move forwards with the light flashing?

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 1 Make a ring of alphabet letters. Place the robot in the centre facing ‘ a ’. Choose one of the following activities:- 1.Children program the robot for each new turn. Spin the Robot and write the letter it is pointing at. Each child takes turns to have 3 goes. Can you make a 3 letter word? How may words can you think of that have those 3 letters in them (1min time limit)? 2. Each child programmes the Robot to spin for a chosen length of time. When it stops think of a verb, adverb, noun or adjective etc beginning with this letter. 3. Make a ring of numbers. Place the robot in the centre. 4. Choose one of the following activities:- When the robot stops Double the number, half the number, add 10, multiply by 100!!!! The possibilities are endless!

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 3 CHALLENGE 1 Use the remote control Direct the model around a simple U-shaped route. (A central barrier to travel around.)

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 3 CHALLENGE 2 Blindfold the operator and other pupils provide verbal instructions to move around the U-shaped route (challenge 1).

Take Control Activity Card Level 3 CHALLENGE 3 To move forwards and backwards in a straight line. To move from a start line to finish on a finishing line (lines approx 1.5m apart.)

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 3 CHALLENGE 4 To move forwards to finishing line, stop and reverse back to the start line.

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 3 CHALLENGE 5 As challenge 4 turning the light on when reversing.

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 4 CHALLENGE 6 To increase and decrease speeds of the motors allowing vehicle to turn. Move forward to line, turn right, turn left and turn around. (link with angles and compass points)

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 4 CHALLENGE 7 Instruct the vehicle to complete a U-shaped course (challenge 1).

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 4 CHALLENGE 8 Complete U-shaped course with barriers around the outside.

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 4 CHALLENGE 9 To use light sensor. To introduce loop feature. Tape 2 white strips on the floor. Move vehicle forward and reverse when sensor detects white line.

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 4 CHALLENGE 10 Follow a square of white strips. Use sensor to stop vehicle, turn right and go forward. Use loop.

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 4 CHALLENGE 11 To use touch sensor. Use touch sensor to stop vehicle and reverse it.

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 4 CHALLENGE 12 Set up vehicle with touch sensors at front and back. Make vehicle travel backwards and forwards between two objects. (Bumper cars) *Consider arena

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 4 CHALLENGE 13 To use music feature. To create a warning sound to be played when vehicle is moving.

Take Control Activity Card Pilot Level 4 CHALLENGE 14 To apply all skills. To complete complex mazes.
