Vision Value-add to rescued, donated, surplus and local produce to develop nutritious meals that will assist people in need. Increase the profile schools delivering VET by giving them the opportunity to work with Industry Chefs and Apprentices.
Mission Develop stronger partnerships between schools, industry and training providers. Promote best practice standards across participating schools, acceptable to industry. Enhance communication, time management, team work and conflict resolution skills between all participants by working together to achieve a common goal. To provide an exciting opportunity to improve student motivation to seek a career in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry. In support of the “Food for Thought” Report 2012 recommendations

Outcomes for students The opportunity to develop relationships with industry professionals. Provide students with role models to aspire to and improve their understanding of what it is like to work in the industry. The opportunity to work alongside apprentices in a ‘real world’ environment. Involvement in the ‘cycle of giving.’ Develop and promote community spirit.
Outcomes for Schools Enhance the profile of schools delivering VET through the opportunity to work with Industry chefs and apprentices. Showcase amazing teachers Promote the use of Trade Training centres by encouraging schools to work together and share their resources to achieve a common goal. Promote health and wellbeing in the Hospitality industry through nutrition education. Enhance and promote school and industry links.
Outcomes for teachers Support peer teaching between Crown Perth Apprentices and school students through collaborative planning, skill development and sharing. Promote and develop community spirit through a worthwhile project. Promote a high level of training and exchange of expertise between teaching staff and professionals within the hospitality industry. Opportunity to access Units of Competency as required by training packages to Industry standard. To have support and opportunity to have professional training hours endorsed and accredited. Promote individual school expertise and professionalism. Home Economics Institute of Australia (WA Division) to endorse and certify PD hours for teachers.
School Selection criteria School must address the following selection criteria, or join a school that meet the criteria as prescribed. The school must; Be delivering a Cert I or Certificate II in Hospitality/Kitchen Operations. Have a commercial kitchen that meets industry standards as per training package. Be able to transport students to and from Crown Perth to meetings and other promotional activities. Be willing to facilitate communication with Industry chefs, organisers and Apprentices at Crown Perth. Ensure students will dress to industry standards. Ensure participating teachers can commit to meetings Only 12 schools will be selected.
Health Department Provide workshop on hygiene and food preparation protocol. Provide support and checklist to ensure that food preparation area meets industry criteria.
WA based Industry Chefs Tracey Ashman (Crown Apprentice coordinator) has designed an intricate operational plan to support schools to plan, produce and package meals for the 3 rd of July that involves Crown Perth highly trained chefs and Apprentices Don Hancey - WA food ambassador - is heading up a group of dedicated WA local chefs to provide guidance and support for each school. Schools will be working side by side chefs, and participate in discussions on sustainability in food production.
