A noun is the name of a person, place or thing. For example Meera (name of person) Kerala (name of place) Table (name of thing) Poverty (name of quality)

Common noun A common noun is a name given in common to every person, place, animal or thing of the same kind or class. For example – boy, girl, town, city, cat, dog, bat, ball etc.

Proper noun A proper noun is the name of a particular person, place, animal or thing. For example – Taj Mahal, APJ Abdul Kalam, India etc.

Collective Noun A collective noun is the name given to a collection of persons or things of the same kind. For example – crowd, mob, team, army, jury, fleet, family, committee etc.

Abstract Noun Abstract noun is the name given to a quality, state, action or feeling. For example – goodness, kindness, honesty, wisdom, laughter, childhood, slavery, poverty etc.

Material Noun A material noun is the name of a material or substance. For example – silver, gold, wood, water, mud etc.

Point out the nouns in the following sentences & say whether they are proper, common, collective or abstract noun. Always speak the truth. The crowd was very big. Honesty is the best policy.
