Introduction Gifted Programs and School for Advanced Studies  Lincoln has been a SAS School for 10 years  Gifted is a schoolwide program.  Gifted covers all Small Learning Communities (SLCs)  AB2313-Education appropriate to individual capabilities.  Develop to their highest possible level.

Understanding Student Information  Review your personal data on a regular basis  Gifted categories #751, 752, 754  Gifted categories: Intellectual, Specific Academic: Math, English, Science, Social Studies, High Achievement, Highly Gifted, Talented (Arts), Leadership, Creativity

District Recommendations for Gifted Students in SAS Schools  Four years of acceleration in Gifted Area or Area of Student Interest  9 th Grade-Honors or Advanced Placement in Gifted Area or Area of Student Interest.  Minimum - 1 honors class or concurrent enrollment in 2 levels of Gifted area.

District Recommendations for Gifted Students (Continued)  10 th Grade - Minimum 2 Honors or 1 Honors and 1 Advanced Placement class  11 th Grade - Minimum 2 Honors and 1 Advanced Placement class  12 th Grade - Minimum 2 Honors and 2 Advanced Placement classes or concurrent enrollment in the College Programs.

What if my Gifted Child has poor grades?  They need motivation and support from home and school, simultaneously.  Many gifted students have fluctuating grades.  It is a Myth, an untruth, that all Gifted Students are “good” at all subjects.  They need motivation and support from home and school, simultaneously.  Are your Gifted Children with other Gifted Children-”Clustered” (Cluster ratios)

Poor Grades (Continued) Suggestions:  Arrange for tutoring support  Speak w/teachers and counselors- frequently  Get permission and visit the class during class time.  Monitor progress  Know your child’s friends and their parents
