Cognitive Ability Tests Y7 September 2013

 These tests focus on each individual student’s style of learning.  Taking these tests on entry to the school allows us to assess the student’s learning and to place them appropriately in sets for some subjects.  They allow us to identify ‘gifted’ students – We now able to identify those with high levels of spatial as well as verbal and numerical ability.  CATs tests are part of a national framework which correlates with curriculum Key Stages.  3 out of the 4 parts of CATs4 are not dependent on language so students with any level of English can be assessed.  CATs are for students with a reading age from age 7 years 6 months to 17 years 11 months and the same test format is used throughout.  The results support all aspects of teaching and learning and are used as a reference point for teachers when planning and setting targets.
