Highlights of the Year Our trips and visits. Grandparents’ Assembly. Christmas performance – Year 3 supporting year 4. Drumming in the summer term. Swimming in the spring and autumn term

Topics & New Learning P.E. – football, gymnastics, dance, badminton, athletics, rounders and swimming P.S.H.E. – Keeping Safe, E-Safety, Good to be me, Feeling Good, The Right Choices and Relationships. Music – singing, recorders and drumming Art – sculpture, painting and drawing linked to overall topics D.T. – making pencil cases, magnetic games and moving monsters The children will also learn German, R.E. and I.C.T.

Key learning this year English Developing writing stamina. Improving the quality of what they write e.g. through editing. Greater emphasis on spelling, grammar and use of powerful vocabulary. Writing in different styles and for different text types. Handwriting – ‘joined handwriting should be the norm’. Maths Place value. Developing mental and written methods for the 4 operations. Securing times tables up to 12x12. More independent problem solving. Developing understanding of shape and measures.

Key learning this year BIG Maths! Three times a week. Short, sharp, fun, active activities. In small groups. Spellings & Guided reading Spellings happen twice a week. Guided reading is three times a week in small groups across Year 3.
