Target Behavior Miss lucky 1 feels that she is not appreciated in anything she does for anyone. She feels people take advantage of her and give nothing in return. She needs to let people know how she really feels and find coping mechanisms to help with her depression.

Theory (HBM) High Perceived Susceptibility: higher risk of getting high blood pressure because of her family history. Low Perceived Severity: not over weight and has had problems in the past with not eating enough she doesn’t believe that she is at a high risk of getting health related illnesses Perceived Barriers: won’t be able to deal with stress, drinking soda is her drink of choice when at people’s houses/dates High Self-Efficacy: getting married and is not over weight, support from family and friends

Theory (cont.…) Changing her mood: Changing her environment. Increased Perceived Severity: In a decent environment but family causes stress and makes her depressed. Different Ways of Coping With depression: Open up to people and talk to them and let them know what is wrong. Raise Perceived Benefits: Hope that things will change Get Help from Peers: Encouragement to get help or to talk to someone.

Smart Goal 4 weeks Miss lucky 1 will have to talk to someone about what might be bothering her. Find other things to take her mind off of things. Tell Miss lucky 1 about how her depression will continue if she doesn’t try to resolve it. Slowly get Miss lucky 1 to slowly open up to people about what might be bothering her and what might be on her mind. The pattern will continue by talking more and more each week. Will use a chart to keep track of meetings.

Results  Miss lucky 1 succeeded in opening up to me about things that we bothering her.  Miss lucky 1 is changing her talking habits and making it a more frequent thing.  Over all Miss lucky 1 did a great job and is becoming less depressed and opening up a lot more to me and others.  As a depression reliever she is working in the yard and not thinking about things too much.

Personal / Professional Analysis Using a theory to help guide an intervention was that it is easier said than done in convincing someone that they need to change their way of living. Along with helping someone change their health behavior I also learned that I’m not a people person Using the Health Belief Model to explain the client’s health problem was the easiest Using the articles was the hardest part of the intervention
