AHADS Attappady Hill Area Development Society

VISION Optimum development of natural and human resources. Sustainable development of local communities. Good governance of resources. Empowerment of local communities for effective participation in the overall development programmes.

MISSION Eco-restoration and social development through watershed and participatory approach. Creating sustainable livelihood opportunities. Empowerment of local people.

OBJECTIVES Ecological restoration of degraded wastelands in Attappady Development of replicable models of participative eco- restoration. Prevent further degradation Promote sustainable method of livelihood for the local people (with special emphasis on tribal population) in harmony with resource base. Scio-economic development of weaker section particularly tribes (The components for such developments were incorporated with original project on 2002.)

IMPACTS SOCIAL IMPACTS Just wages Starvation deaths (no starvation deaths after 1999) Malnutrition (considerable reduction in the incidence of anaemia cases) Employment (3.45 million man days of employment) School dropouts (reduced by half)

Ecological Impacts Forest Regeneration works completed in around 8500 ha of forest land Rejuvenation of water streams(improved annual discharge levels of water) Increase in ground water availability(water levels in dry wells increased by 5-40 feet) Overcoming Drought(no severe drought after 2002)
