FIRST PARAGRAPH INTRODUCTION  Indent HOOK  Would you like to go to school on Saturday? STATE YOUR OPINION  Students should not be forced to go to school six days a week. GIVE 2-3 REASONS (no details)  Some parents work weekends and require older siblings to babysit younger family members. Also, students will miss more days of school because they will become exhausted and sick. Finally, there would be no time for any extra curricular activities or part time jobs. THESIS  Monday through Friday is enough time for students to spend at school.

HOOK UNUSUAL DETAIL  Meals at Hogwarts appear magically three times a day! For that alone, I would live at school. STRONG/OUTRAGEOUS STATEMENT  Attending school six days a week will change your life. QUOTE  “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” John Dewey STATISTIC/FACT  The school day in France typically runs from 8 to 4, with a half day on Saturday. Students, however, do not attend school on Wednesday or Sunday. QUESTION  Do you want to go to school on Saturday?

SECOND PARAGRAPH  Indent  Restate your first reason.  Give the details to support your reason  Discuss or elaborate on reason  Give examples from your own life, class, from a book or movie to justify your view  Statistic/Quote (if research based)  Summary sentence TRANSITION WORDS To begin with, … In the first place, … Firstly, … The first reason, …

SECOND PARAGRAPH EXAMPLE Firstly, many parents work over the weekends and rely on older siblings to take care of the younger ones. If students went to school on Saturday, parents would be forced to pay for childcare for another day. Child care can start at $40 per day. In my family, my parents try to get the weekend shift, so that they are available during the week to help with homework or come and watch basketball. My older sister is in charge on Saturday and Sunday mornings. So, going to school on Saturday would change our family dynamics.

THIRD PARAGRAPH  Indent  Restate your second reason.  Give the details to support this reason ONLY  Discuss or elaborate on reason  Give examples from your own life, class, from a book or movie to justify your view  Statistic/Quote (if research based)  Summary sentence TRANSITION WORDS Additionally, … Another reason why, … Next, … The second reason, … Also, …

SECOND PARAGRAPH EXAMPLE Additionally, if I had to attend school six days a week, when would I fit anything else into my life? My days would become as endless repetition. It would be a blur of classes, teachers, and homework. Right now I look forward to the weekend as not only a break from the routines of Monday though Friday, but a chance to have fun with my family, go camping or even just relax. I learn other life lessons during this break and isn’t being a well rounded person more important? Going to school on Saturday would mean no mental break to pursue other activities that make you a well rounded person.

FOURTH PARAGRAPH  Indent  State what the opposing view(s) could be  Give the details to refute this view(s)  Elaborate  Give examples from your own life, class, from a book or movie to justify your view  Statistic/Quote (if research based)  Summary sentence TRANSITION WORDS Opposing views may say, … Others will say, … Next, … The second reason, … Also, …
