COMENIUS PROJECT “YOU AND ME MAKE EUROPE” I.E.S. BOHÍO Fishing Fishing in the Region of Murcia has been a secondary activity. Captures were sold in their totality in the region, but we also import some resources. Our fishing fleet is mainly handmade. The main fishing ports are those of Cartagena and Aguilas. Aquiculture is clearly the extension. Takes place in small boats near the shore. The boats are small and carry nets together with powerful fishing lines. Their catches are becoming more and more scarce due to the depletion of the seabed. Inshore Craft Fhising of high altitude Deep-sea fishing Coastal fishing -Long distance -several months -average distance -several days -short distance -one day -short distance -one day
COMENIUS PROJECT “YOU AND ME MAKE EUROPE” I.E.S. BOHÍO. Agriculture In the Region of Murcia agriculture has an average weight in the GDP. This is one of the most profitable agriculture in Spain and Europe. This is due to a very important productivity, well- above the national average. In fact, we face an export-oriented agriculture. Rain-fed agriculture Irrigated olive almonds wheat barley Citrus fruitvegetables
COMENIUS PROJECT “YOU AND ME MAKE EUROPE” I.E.S. BOHÍO Livestock farming Murcia Livestock farming has always been modest. Ranching virtually disappeared. At present livestock is exploited in intensive regime, and is located near the markets. The main products that are obtained are: MILK MEAT
COMENIUS PROJECT “YOU AND ME MAKE EUROPE” I.E.S. BOHÍO MINING Nowadays the mineral wealth of the Murcia region is small, it is widely scattered and it is very difficult to farm. There are lead, zinc, iron, pyrite, silver and gold, but the current Mines have very little activity. There are no Metallic Mineral Deposits although the village of La Union used to focus its economy on mining activities. The lead is extracted in La Union, together with iron with very little money. Most of the iron is extracted in Caravaca de la Cruz (Murcia). The limestone quarries especially for cement are few in number and are located near mountain areas.
COMENIUS PROJECT “YOU AND ME MAKE EUROPE” I.E.S. BOHÍO OUR NATURAL RESOURCES ARE SCARCE. OUR REALLY IMPORTANT RESOURCES ARE INDUSTRY AND TOURISM BUT UNFORTNATELY, THEY ARE NOT NATURAL!!.

COMENIUS PROJECT “YOU AND ME MAKE EUROPE” I.E.S. BOHÍO Livestock farming - The atmosphere has been decisive in the development of livestock in Spain, because weather often prevented to find pasture. -Spain has experienced an important change, after having increased selling places. -Mostly of Spanish farms are now mechanized and have modern computers and sophisticated slaughterhouses. Livestock farming has key economic importance, as it constitutes approximately 42% of the value of agricultural production.
COMENIUS PROJECT “YOU AND ME MAKE EUROPE” I.E.S. BOHÍO Fishing Fishing is a great tradition of economic activity in Spain which has been losing weight throughout the economy. Spain is at the forefront of the EU fleet in tonnage, in volume and value of fish landed, number of fishermen and aquaculture production. It is reduced to near the coast. It comes out to fish every day and return at night. Inshore fishing It is engaged for months and reaches all corners of the Earth. These are big companies that fish and frozen fish at sea to ensure their preservation. They use craft techniques. Offshore fishing
COMENIUS PROJECT “YOU AND ME MAKE EUROPE” I.E.S. BOHÍO Mining Minerals are being exploited from the Age of Metal until now. The copper, iron, aluminium, gold, silver... are rarely found in nature so pure and always stand united with other elements. The origin of the minerals is very varied. The vast majority of them has to do with the fluids that exist in magmas is in the earth's crust. The most important mineral resources are: CEMENT IRON CARBON (Asturias, León)
