2015 TEAm Grant Innovations Convening – Tampa, FL Entry Examination Boot-Camps FIU ensures that students are prepared for major-area coursework by requiring students to pass an entry examination The exam assesses knowledge of Principles of Accounting, usually taught as second-year course Students must score 75% to be admitted into third-year accounting coursework 2

2015 TEAm Grant Innovations Convening – Tampa, FL Boot-Camps While FIU offers a semester-long review course, we believed that an intensive boot- camp directly before the exam would help students concentrate We initiated the boot-camp with TEAm grant money in the Summer of A typical agenda follows. 3

2015 TEAm Grant Innovations Convening – Tampa, FL Student Recruitment FIU works with MDC to ensure that their students are prepared to take the entry examination Both FIU and MDC offer semester-long review courses, and we invite MDC students to the intensive boot-camps FIU also has used the TEAm grant to subsidize accounting advising for MDC and Broward College students 9

2015 TEAm Grant Innovations Convening – Tampa, FL Student Recruitment We train and assist MDC advisors One of our FIU advisors visits different MDC campuses to inform students about the entry exam and other FIU policies We intend to extend advisor training to Broward College Fall
