Goal To support practitioners in deepening their knowledge and practical skills in climate change adaptation projects Conducting and Monitoring Climate Change Adaptation Projects

Adaptation to climate change and how to monitor adaptation in projects and programmes using the CEDRIG tool Focus of the Learning Event

Climate change is impacting development. Developing countries are vulnerable. Impacts manifest themselves in sectors into which SDC invests Rationale for the Learning Event We need to tune our understanding towards: The short term impacts of climate change on the risks of disaster The long term impacts of climate change on sectors important for development: Agriculture Land Water Forest Energy Health

To upgrade knowledge about the implementation and monitoring of climate change adaptation projects To learn from and contribute to an exchange of experience on climate change adaptation in projects Objectives To critically discuss opportunities and challenges in climate change adaptation based on practical examples To facilitate networking and knowledge sharing

Approach The event builds on previous courses, but is more focused on adaptation and on tools for planning and monitoring Following a demand the contents moves more towards concrete examples of applying and monitoring adaptation in projects The event offers focused and new information on the topic The event addresses newcomers as well as staff who have already followed previous trainings (SDC and others). A specific niche of the course is its short duration and its opportunity to network

(some) pre-reading of climate change basics, specifically on adaptation Presentation inputs by external experts and SDC followed by discussion and exchange Methods Presentation of case studies, reflection and discussion Practical exercise on CEDRIG Facilitation of networking and knowledge sharing

Expected Results Participants have a clear understanding of what is adaption in terms of specific adaptation projects and adaption as transversal approach Participants are familiar in using CEDRIC and other tools in planning and monitoring adaption projects. Participants are aware of the challenges and opportunities in monitoring adaption projects and programs

Technicalities The event will take place in “Tagungszentrum Rüttihubelbad”, 3512 Walkringen Dates: 8 & 9 January 2013 No course fee but cost for travel and accommodation to be paid by participants Information through: F. Droz (Focal Point GPCC) Thematic coordination by CDE:
