BROOKSIDE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL Grade 9 Trip 2011 Montreal – Quebec City June 5 to June 8

OUR FIRST AND FOREMOST PRIORITY WILL BE THAT “ THE GROUP ALWAYS COMES FIRST “ AND INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS’ PERSONAL WISHES COME SECOND!!! SAFETY OF ALL THE STUDENTS IS OUR PRIORITY!

AT ALL TIMES STUDENTS MUST : LISTEN when the group leaders speak to you about times, reminders & other details. BE ON TIME – Nothing can upset the group more if we are kept waiting – this means that the planned events for the entire group may be jeopardized or cancelled. BE AWARE, STAY ALERT – Always know where you are and who you are with. Never be alone! Never leave the group!

ALL SCHOOL RULES APPLY NO MATTER IF YOU ARE ON THE SCHOOL GROUNDS OR ON THE STREET IN DOWNTOWN MONTREAL OR QUEBEC Use your judgment as you do each day at school. Make good decisions! There will be no tattooing or piercing while on the trip. REMEMBER – we are ambassadors of Brookside & Nova Scotia BE COURTEOUS – you will have numerous chances to impress many people with your manners, your consideration and your awareness of others

NOTE: WHILE ON THE PLANE – be respectful and courteous. Security is a very serious thing and all rules and regulations, particularly regarding liquids, MUST be followed to the letter. Photo ID is necessary to board the plane. WHILE ON THE BUS – be considerate of your fellow students, chaperones and driver. We will make group decisions about the DVD, stops, etc. The chaperones and bus drivers are very important in making our trip run smoothly.

Students must respect requests made by chaperones, tour guides and bus drivers (etc) at all times. WHILE ON THE TOURS – stay with the group. Each chaperone will be responsible for their own group of students. When a chaperone raises their hand, all members of that chaperone’s group must gather around them for an attendance check. This applies at all times. We will not move on until everyone is accounted for. Do not wander off on your own to explore, shop or even go to a washroom alone. Always let your chaperone know where you are! WHILE IN THE HOTELS – curfews are negotiated as a group. Students have input but once a decision is made, it is firm. NEVER leave the Hotel without a chaperone. VISITATIONS – by Family members/friends must be arranged in advance, with visits only at the hotel.

CONSEQUENCES FOR MISBEHAVIOR - You will be placed directly with a chaperone for the length of time determined by chaperones (based upon what the student did). - Consequences for the behaviors will be determined and implemented on the trip if possible. - Possibly an early return to Nova Scotia (at a cost to parents/guardians). - Loss of various privileges at school including the grade 9 closing dance & the closing ceremonies.

GRADE 9 TRIP – FINAL ITEMS LIST THINGS TO TAKE Personal clothing / Bathing suits / toiletries Spending money / Bank Card (meals, souvenirs, etc.) Nova Scotia Health Card – this must be turned in to the school by Wednesday, June 1 st (you will not leave Halifax without this) Calling card / Cell phones are allowed IPod / MP3, deck of cards, travel games, munchies, movies for the DVD on the bus, etc. Luggage – ONE suitcase and a second small carry on bag ( a backpack is probably the best idea so you can use it for the day trips)

CLOTHING – Hopefully it will be warm, however, if it isn’t be prepared with various layers that you can put on or take off. SPENDING MONEY – During the trip, you are responsible for buying 5 meals – 4 lunches and 1 supper. It is recommended that students budget approximately $10.00 to $15 per meal (give or take – depending on your appetite). We recommend that all money be deposited into a bank account and a bank (debit) card should be used to make your purchases instead of carrying cash. DAY OF DEPARTURE – It is recommended that the students bring snacks to the airport (not liquids) for the plane ride and the bus ride to Quebec City. They are not scheduled for lunch until 12:00 pm that day.

YOUR CHAPERONES ARE – Mr. Nelson, Ms. Meehan, Mr. Bent, Mr. McNeil, Ms. MacIntyre, Ms. Gray, Mr. Flinn and Mrs. Brennan. HOTEL TELEPHONE NUMBERS: Montreal ~ Hotel Sandman Longueuil ( ) Quebec City ~ Hotel Plaza ( ) In case of an emergency, contact the school to speak to Mrs. Kirkpatrick or Mr. MacDonald and we can relay messages on to the chaperones.

Thank you! This trip could not have happened without the dedication and hard work of the parent volunteers.
