Fishing rods go back to ancient Egypt, China, Greece, Rome and medieval England, where they were called "angles" this is where the term "angling" came about for fishing. Fishing rods of the past were mostly made out of bamboo.

*ONE OF THE BIGGEST FISH CAUGHT ON A BAMBOO ROD WAS A 28 LB CATFISH. *BAMBOO RODS ARE NOT DESIGNED TO CATCH BIG FISH BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE GREAT BEND IN IT.

Modern day fishing rods now use materials such as graphite, and fibreglass. This has allowed rod makers to improve the shape and action of fishing rods. Today fishing rods have different weights, which is the weight of line or lure. And the action which is the flex along the length of the rod.

*THE BIGGEST FISH CAUGHT ON A NEW FISHING ROD WAS A BLUE MARLIN CAUGHT IN 1970 WEIGHING 1,805 LB. *NEW FISHING RODS ARE MORE ABLE TO CATCH BIG FISH BECAUSE OF THE FIBREGLASS THAT THEY ARE MADE OF, WHICH HELPS THEM TO BEND RATHER THAN BREAK.

THEREFORE I BELIEVE THAT FISHING RODS OF TODAY AND ALL THE GEAR THAT IS AVAILABLE MAKES CATCHING BIG FISH EASIER THAN WHAT IT WAS IN THE PAST.
