& exploited for oil and gas. Shale gas, the gas obtained from sedimentary rocks, is the new focus area in the US, Canada and China as an alternative to conventional oil and gas. It is a natural gas, primarily methane, trapped in the earth’s most common sedimentary rock shale, which has low permeability. Shale’s have large organic matter, from which oil and gas can be extracted by destructive distillation. These unconventional deposits have proved to be an alternative to conventional oil and gas for meeting growing energy needs, as experienced in USA. The proposed workshop will provide a platform for Indian Geoscientists to interact with experts available in the industry as this would help to harness the vast hydrocarbons resources from shale. On behalf of Society of Petroleum Geophysicists, India (SPG), I would like to have your interactive participation by sharing your knowledge of understanding through technical paper. Nomination will be on first cum first basis. Apurba Saha President, SPG-India INVITATION India is gearing to explore and exploit the potential of hydrocarbon from shale as Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) is likely to offer shale gas areas for auction by end India has so far only explored
