How We Glorify God in Worship Lesson 8 “Give unto the LORD, O you mighty ones, Give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due to His name; Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.”-- Psalm 29:1-2

Glorifying God To be obsessed with the glory of God is the consuming passion of the true worshiper who lives to exalt God. “I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify Your name forevermore” (Psalm 86:12) The chief end of man is to glorify God… magnifying His glory now, and relishing it throughout eternity. (Jude 24-25; Revelation 5:13; 7:9-12)

We Glorify the One Who is Glorious What is glory? –The word “glory” occurs 379 times in the NKJV Bible. “Glorify” is found 27 times. –Thayer’s Lexicon defines the word translated “glory” (Gr. δόξα) as “splendor, brightness… magnificence, excellence, preeminence, dignity, grace, majesty… a thing belonging to God.” We give glory to or glorify One Who is glorious (1 Chronicles 16:23-29; Revelation 15:4)

Glorifying God in Daily Living Eliminate hypocrisy. (Matthew 6:1-2, 5, 16) –What is the hypocrite trying to steal for himself? Sacrifice self (1 Peter 4:14) –How would Peter himself glorify God? (John 21:18-19) Bear fruit (John 15:8) Do everything to the glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31; Matthew 5:16; 1 Peter 4:11) Our goal in this life is to share in God’s glory in the next life! (Romans 2:7, 10; 8:18; Philippians 3:20-21)

Glorifying God in Worship Do you agree that glorifying God in worship “is nothing if it is not active and dynamic”? We glorify God in worship through… –Verbal Praise in song and thanksgiving (Psalm 50:23; 107:31-32; Hebrews 13:15) Offered in UNITY! (Romans 15:5-6) –Confession of sin (Neh. 1:5-6; Daniel 9:3-19) –Prayer (John 14:13) How does a prayer that is asked in faith glorify God? –Worshiping Him in “the beauty of holiness” (Psalm 29:1-2)
