Presentation transcript:

Olje- og energidepartementet Present Norwegian activities Focus on CCS both as global climate mitigation measure and for EOR-purposes. Valuable experience from commercial storage projects on the NCS by Statoil: –1 million tonnes of CO 2 is stored annually at the Sleipner field in the North Sea. –The Snøhvit field will store tonnes of CO 2 per year from Need for further R&D in order to make CCS a cost efficient alternative for reducing global emissions.

Olje- og energidepartementet Present Norwegian activities Considerable R,D & D activity in Norway to develop gas power stations with CO 2 separation, transport and storage. –Gassnova - a new public facility established in 2005, fund 2 billion NOK, will administer approximately NOK 100 million in –National gas technology program (Climit) – collaboration between Gassnova and the Research Council on research, development and testing of technologies for gas fired power plants with CO 2 capture and storage. Wide and active participation by industry and research institutions in R&D in Norway

Olje- og energidepartementet Present Norwegian activities Norway is participating in various international initiatives e.g.: –CSLF. CO 2 STORE, CASTOR, CCP and In Salah (nominated). –EU 6th R&D framework program. –IEA: (ZETs, Implementing Agreement on Enhanced Oil Recovery, IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme) Informal governmental forum for dialogue on CO 2 for EOR is established between Norway, Denmark, UK and the European Commission.
