Sightsee Sydney Social Studies (Australian) WebQuest Education 505 Spring 2009 By: Alicia Ramos

Introduction  Have you ever wanted to visit another country, or know what it’s like to go “down under?”  What would it be like to live there? What activities can you participate in? Or what kind of animals are common to the land?  Here is your chance to become a tour guide and guide our classroom on a trip to Sydney, Australia.

Task  With a partner, or a group no larger than four (4) classmates, choose at least five (5) activities and/or places from the list provided that you think would be most valuable to know about and see when you’re visiting Australia.  Explore the provided websites and make a list of restaurants, famous landmarks, entertainment, and anything else you chose to be essential to know if you were going on a trip to Sydney.  With your collected data you and your partner (or group) will create a brochure that will help travelers navigate through the city and experience what it’s really like to live in a country on the other side of the world! Be sure to note whether you recommend these sights, restaurants, etc. so that people will know which are highly rated, and worth their time and money.

Process With your partner or small group choose five (5) attractions to research from the list below:  Restaurants  Landmarks  Shopping/Entertainment  Hotels  Theme parks  Night Life  Outdoor/Nature Activities  Beaches  Schools/Education  Wildlife Exhibits

Process Continued…  Now begin making a list of several choices for the activities you’ve picked. You will use this list to refer back to when assembling your brochure.  Example: If you chose restaurants, make a list featuring various restaurants that serve different kinds of cuisine.  Keep in mind, people of all ages travel to Sydney so locations must be child friendly, and senior citizen appropriate.  Using your resources, tell if this is a popular choice or not so highly rated.

Resources COTJ1sWEnpkCFQrFGgod_EzvCg COTJ1sWEnpkCFQrFGgod_EzvCg irect:us:oneweekwalkabout irect:us:oneweekwalkabout Vacations.html Vacations.html These websites will be helpful in finding information to put into your brochure but should also provide pictures that you can place through out for added detail!

Process Continued… With so much information at your finger tips you should have more than enough sources and great recommendations for Sydney tourists. It’s time to create your brochure based on all the information you have gathered... Your brochure must include the following but is not limited to:  Title  The five attractions you chose from the list  Pictures (at least 5 through out)  Prices of the activities ($$)  Hours of business (if any)  Ratings (good or bad)

Evaluation  Brochure is neatly organized and easy to read  Colorful and pictures help it stand out  There are at least five recommended attractions suitable for varying age groups.  All required components are listed next to the attractions or in easy to find locations.  Each group members name is written on the back page  There are no spelling or grammatical errors

Conclusion I hope you enjoyed your stay “Down Under” and have explored all the fantastic, unique tourist attractions Sydney, Australia has to offer. Your tour guide expertise has helped many others experience the wonders of Sydney as well. Hope to see you planning another trip across the world someday soon. Safe travels!
