T=Title P= Paraphrase C= Connotations A= Attitude Tone S= Shifts or Changes T= Main theme T= Title ( again)

T= Title Copy the title. What do you think the title means in reference to the story?

P= Paraphrase Summarize each stanza of the poem/story. List and define 3 words that are unfamiliar to you

C= Connotations Example: Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing to thee to they rest. What is the IMPLIED meaning of rest???

C=Connotations Find all connotations. Write the sentence that the word is found in. What is the meaning of the word? What image is presented through each word? Connotations is the IMPLIED meaning of the word.

A=Attitude What is the tone? What is your attitude about the poem/story? Tone can be sarcastic, sad, depressed, happy, etc…

S=Shift List all shifts/ changes through out the readings. Change in attitude, tone, punctuation, setting or character?

T=Theme Theme is: The controlling idea of a poem. The idea continuously developed throughout the poem by sets of key words that identify the poet's subject and his attitude or feeling about it. It may also be suggested by the title of a poem or by segment of the poem.

T=Theme Continued It is rarely stated explicitly by the poet, but it can be stated by the reader and it can be stated in different ways. The controlling idea is an idea, not a moral; it is a major idea, not a minor supporting idea or detail; and it controls or dominates the poem as a whole.

T=Title ( again) Revisit the title. What is the significance of the title now? Does it have a symbolic meaning?
