Getting College Ready NOW! Grade 8

Today you will… 1.Learn about the importance of Community Service in the College Application process. 2.Find a Community Service opportunity that interests you 3.Log into Naviance to see how to keep track of your Community Service hours

College Application Process 3 Main Components – Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) (Covered last College Going Culture Lesson) – Community Service (This Lesson) – Grade Point Average (GPA) (Next Lesson)

Community Service Definition – noun : work that is done without pay to help people in a community. Work is usually done with non profit organizations.

Non Profits Special Olympics United Way Make a Wish Goodwill Salvation Army DO YOU KNOW ANY?

Why is Community Service Important to Colleges? Colleges want more than JUST students, they want PEOPLE who can excel in the classroom, and during their down time, can step off campus and help out people in need. During High School this helps you win scholarships (next lesson), but in college, it gives the college good publicity and helps build your network (a group of people that help you succeed in life).

For The Rest Of Class… – Finding an opportunity for you – Where you can log your hours to keep track I want to stand OUT!
