On April 22, 1519, Hernán Cortés disembark on beach Chalchihuecan continuation of the campaign initiated by Juan de Grijalva just a year earlier. The island was christened San Juan de Ulua, name given by Juan de Grijalva for taking possession of it on June 24 and Ulua for listening to aboriginal Olua answer. Here Cortés decided to found the first Spanish city council on land, and chose to do on Good Friday, the day of Holy Week known as the Vera Cruz. In this narrative is the name of the small town which is called Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz.

Veracruz is a narrow strip of land slightly curved, extending from northwest to southeast on the coast. It has an area of km2, with a coastline of 684Km, which represents 3.7% of the total area of Mexico. Its maximum extent from northwest to southeast is 800 miles long and 212 miles wide, while the minimum is 32 km wide. It is the tenth state of the Republic, which borders the north by the state of Tamaulipas; on the east by the Gulf of Mexico and the state of Tabasco; southeast to the state of Chiapas; the south by the state of Oaxaca and west by the states of Puebla, Hidalgo and San Luis Potosi. It has a population of 7,176,000 inhabitants distributed in 212 municipalities grouped into 10 regions are:
