Why is it important ? It is important because…….. 1. it helps children feel good about themselves 2. It builds their confidence 3. It helps you better understand your problems

Why Else is it important ….. 1. It will cause you to have better social skills 2. More self respect 3. More self respect for others 4. Have better control over your emotions

The 5 Areas of Self Esteem  Physical : How you feel about your body and health.  Emotional : How you feel about your feelings and how you express them.  Social : How you feel about your ability to get along with others.  Intellectual : How you feel about your ability to think and solve problems.  Spiritual : How you feel about your religious beliefs or your place in the “BIG Picture:.

How Can We improve Self Esteem in Children ?  Encourage decision making  Praise positive behaviors  Follow the child lead  Accept that its normal to have disappointments

How Else…..?  Separate the child from the failure  Give the child responsibilities… AND  Show affection : )
