Who can go?? SMS students in Grade 8 or 9 who: Have regular and reliable school attendance Consistently uphold the school code of conduct Are willing and able to make up missed work Are committed to planning, fundraising and completing other tasks required for the exchange Are comfortable being away from home and billeted with another family for eight days

Let’s Talk Dollar$ and Cent$ Total cost per student is only $600! Airfare to and from Ottawa** Travel Insurance** Activities, meals, accommodation and travel in Ottawa & Montreal Host activities in Kelowna Travel, meals and accommodation in Vancouver A priceless educational and cultural experience!

YUP! There’s a payment plan! Initial Deposit of $50 due with application (non-refundable once student is accepted for exchange) $150 due by Dec 5 th, 2014 $200 due by Feb 27 th, 2015 $200 due by April 3 rd, 2015

That’s a great deal, but... yikes! Fundraising – we have the opportunity to reduce costs if we commit to fundraising activities Supplemental Funding available through SEVEC for those in need.

What do we need from parents? Take on fundraising activities Organize some host activities (family day) Participate in events we plan for our visitors Be prepared to billet an Ottawa student Willing to drive billet to and from school

The Application Process THE FIRST STEP: Complete STUDENT application form Profile Teacher recommendations Complete FAMILY application form $50 non-refundable deposit* Selections made on a FCFS basis Students must meet the established criteria set out in the application process

The Application Process The SECOND Step (once selected) student medical form 3 confidential family references criminal record check for all adults in home Submit payment/apply for extraordinary funding The THIRD Step Parent’s - establish committees (fundraising, event planning, etc) Students – complete required assignments
