Civil society’s response to Heads of Government of CARICOM Summit on NCDs  As a direct response to the call for a collaborative and supportive role of civil society in responding to the chronic diseases, a civil society Caribbean Chronic Disease conference was held : “ Healthy Caribbean 2008: A Wellness Revolution Event”.

Healthy Caribbean Coalition  The Healthy Caribbean Coalition (HCC) was formed in It is a live network of health non-governmental and civil society organisations from across the CARICOM region with a specific remit to address non-communicable diseases (NCDs)

Mission  To harness the power of civil society, in partnership with government, private enterprise, academia, and international partners, to prevent and better manage chronic diseases, through the promotion of healthy lifestyles, enabling and supportive environments, the better management of chronic diseases, and empowered people

HCC to be established as a not for profit company, registered in the first instance in Barbados An eleven member Executive Committee selected, charged with the responsibility of directing the HCC for the next 2 years Projects : population salt reduction, adherence to ratification of FCTC by Caribbean governments, and the hosting of a workshop on Physical Activity A HCC Road Map leading to the UNHM was finalised Capacity building initiatives identified: improvements to the website, seeking to partner with service clubs in the region and outreach into countries.
