United Kingdom

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, is commonly known as the United Kingdom, the UK, or Britain. The United Kingdom consists of 4 countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. The United Kingdom is participating in the G-20 Summit to review progress made since the Washington and London Summits, to address the global economy and financial crisis, and to also address energy and environmental issues. The countries that make up the United Kingdom are located between Ireland and France.

The United Kingdom's population is million people. The average fertility rate in the United Kingdom is 2 children per woman or family. The UK's birth rate is increasing. The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy and is governed by a parliamentary system. The seat of government is located in London, England. England's current queen is Queen Elizabeth II.

The United Kingdom's economy is the 6th largest economy in the world and is the third largest in Europe. Its GDP (as of 2008) is $2.226 trillion dollars, ranked 8th in the world. The UK is now known for financial services, especially banking and insurance. London is the world's largest financial center and is a major center for international business and commerce. London is the leader of the 3 "command centers" for the global economy, along with New York City and Tokyo. Tourism is also very important to the British economy.
