Software for data acquisition and handling Acquisition: Nanometrics proprietary software (Apollo) to extract data from station and convert to miniSEED. Data storage and availability: USGS’s CWB (Common Waveform Buffer). Allows for real-time acquisition (not used) and remote access to waveform data. Metadata: USGS’s INV (Inventory) software. Allows book-keeping of instrumentation, and generates dataless SEED files for entire network and all epochs. Data quality: USGS’s PQLX software for noise analysis (McNamara and Buland, 2004). Phase picking, relocation, … : SEISAN (Havskov and Ottemöller)
PQLX: interactive software for noise and quality control analysis
Use of PQLX to analyze improvements in station installations
PSD signature of seismic and noise sources McNamara and Buland (2004)
Surface-wave tomography using cross-correlations of seismic ambient noise taken from R.L. Weaver (2005)
Comparison of results using independent data
Monitoring network performance with noise Sens-Schönfelder (2008)
Use of ambient noise to forecast volcanic eruptions Brenguier et al. (2008)
