Lesson No : 1 Importance of Computer CHBT-01 Basic Micro process & Computer Operation

A century ago, first industrial revolution was experienced and a lot of countries participated in industrial revolution. After sometime, we are again in the stage of information revolution and Computer plays a vital role in information revolution. Many electronic devices are explored up to date, but the impact of Computer is much more than any other device. Now-a- days it is understood that the literacy of Computer is inevitable. 01. IMPORTANCE OF COMPUTER

 Complex and frequent calculations can be made accurately and speedily.  Vast amount of information can be stored.  Information can be supplied whenever need arises.  Automatic corrections and modifications are as easy as to strike a key.  Charts/Graphs can be prepared and printed as per the information.  Can be used as a communication device using different networks. Characteristics of Computer

 C.A.D. (Computer aided designing):- Engineers, Architects and artists use this facility to resolve the problem faced during their research and designing.  C.A.M. (Computer aided Manufacturing):- Manufacturers use this facility to automate their manufacturing process.  Modeling and acting have great benefits of computer.  Medical science, Meteorology, Social science, Geology, etc. have lot of development due to the computer.  Record keeping is maintained easily in large industrial, business and commercial organizations. Uses of Computer

 Office automation made possible due to computer applications.  Library science, Police department, Hospital and Hotel management utilize the great advantage of having information storage due to computer.  Railway reservation system, Net-banking, ATM are the flashing examples of Computer Networking.  In short, no body can remain out of this channel for long. Each and every section need computer now-a-days. Uses of Computer

Generations of Computer  First Generation:- In 1941, at Pen-Sylvania University, Aken and Mitchley have made ENIAC, the first computer. Vacuum tube was used as the main component of this computer. Thousands of switches, Resisters, Capacitors were used in accordance with Vacuum tube. This computer had the three main elements of computer viz. CPU, Memory and Input-Output device, that is why it was known as the first computer.

Generations of Computer  Second Generation: to 1964, was the second generation of computer utilized Transistor as it’s main component. They were fast, economical and compact in size due to the use of Transistor in place of Vacuum tube.  Third Generation:- Transistor was replaced by I.C. (Integrated Circuit) in third generation. Thousands of Transistors were placed on a single Silicon Wafer. Size of computer was decreased remarkably. It was called Large Scale Integration.

Generations of Computer  Fourth Generation:- I.C. was replaced by Micro chip in this generation. Very Large Scale Integration was obtained i.e. thousands of I.C. was placed together on a micro chip. Recent computer uses Micro chip as main component today. Artificial intelligence is conceived in future computer, which will result in another Generation i.e. Fifth generation.
