Revision Easter School Easter 2014 – Harlow Cluster

Essex Education Services

The aims of the revision school Increase confidence of the participants Identify areas of weakness and build on them quickly by tracking back. To support and develop children's ability to problem solve. To give children the opportunity to learn 1-2-1, small groups and in larger groups using the learners as leaders. To try something different!

Essex Education Services The Planning Process 1 day in each school working with 10 pupils. 1 day follow up to analyse knowledge and understanding. 2 x meetings with staff to plan, discuss tasks, structure etc. 1x parental meeting/opportunity for children to meet their tutors.

Essex Education Services Maths Dictionary – children to research key vocabulary which will unlock learning. Children to record definitions, diagrams etc which will help learning.

Essex Education Services Encouraging Parents/Carers to continue the support Meetings at school pre revision school – clear commitment expectations. Reflection at the end of each day – via the diary with what the pupil is committing to do. What support would they like from home. Success Assembly at the end.

Essex Education Services Impact Confidence Many of the children were lacking confidence in their mathematical ability before the revision school. Children were then asked to show their confidence before and after.

Essex Education Services

So what did the children say? “Really happy, have learnt lots of new things and I am now more confident and it has helped me a lot with my maths. “ “I feel like I have achieved I can do a lot more things, like percentages and fractions” “Helping me with my maths” “Sometimes I get mixed up ….. it helped”

Essex Education Services How could this work for you? Use EES consultants to work with a cluster of schools in your locality to put together a revision school that works for you and your clusters needs. Use EES consultants to work with your school individually to help put together a bespoke programme that fits the needs of your cohort.
