Jason J. Lynch Mathematics Teacher Certification Grades

My Educational Philosophy Create high expectations for yourself and for your students. –Students will perform to the level of expectation. Give your students the tools necessary to succeed. –Provide students with the resources to be successful and then hold them accountable for their learning. Create situations and learning experiences that set your students up for success. –Use scaffolding techniques that allow students to stretch their limits while creating opportunities to succeed.

Extra-Curricular Activities Along with teaching mathematics, I have been a head football coach, head baseball coach, and assistant wrestling coach.

Margaretta High School ( ) At Margaretta, I taught Pre- Calculus and Algebra I. I developed a “Student of the Week” program to promote positive behavior and a strong academic work ethic. I instituted a bi-weekly study table that averaged 30 students per week. I also served as an assistant football coach, assistant wrestling coach, and assistant baseball coach.

Walnut Hills High School Walnut Hills High School is a 6- year, college-preparatory Math & Science Magnet School, and has been ranked as one of the top public schools in the nation by Newsweek magazine. During my last year at WHHS, we had 54 National Merit Award Winners. WHHS: Cool School I also served as Assistant Student Activities Director during the basketball season. I taught predominantly Pre- Calculus, but also taught a section each of Algebra II and Pre- Algebra. I also served as the head baseball coach and assistant football coach.

River Valley High School I teach Algebra III/Trigonometry, Probability & Statistics, AP Calculus, Pre-Calculus and Algebra II. I also serve as an OGT Prep coordinator for mathematics. During my time at RV, we have had a 92% increase in enrollment in AP Calculus. RVHS has been an “Excellent” school my entire time in the district. I am the lead teacher for the National Robotics Challenge and build MathMachines for our math classes. I have been a mentor teacher for students from Ohio Northern University. I offer ACT preparation courses throughout the school year.

Highlands High School 2011-present 2011-present –Teach Advanced PreCalculus & Advanced Algebra II at Highlands High School –Actively involved in ACT preparation and Quality Core alignment –Particpate in study seminars on Backward Design models –HHS is the top performing k-12 school district in the state of Kentucky and has been named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Nationally Ranked by the Washington Post

Math Machines I am a firm believer in using technology in the classroom. One way I accomplish this is with the use of “Math Machines.” Creating math machines - simple devices which give an immediate, physical, dynamic expression to “abstract” mathematical equations – is a great way to promote discovery, positive social interactions, and realistic career applications with real assessment.

AP Calculus I have an approved AP Calculus course syllabus and course audit from the AP College Board. I attend numerous workshops to keep my AP teaching skills representative of the best current practices. I strongly encourage my students to get involved in student-centered learning through Web sites such as Drexel University’s Math Forum. Nearly 1/3 of my students receive the highest possible score on the AP Exam

BRIDGING THE MATH GAP I was a lead facilitator/presenter in the “Bridging the Math Gap” Conference presented at Ohio State University-Marion. We developed and discussed strategies for improving student success in college. Worked collaboratively with college instructors to develop a curriculum designed to prepare students for the rigors of college-level mathematics.

Education Pleasant Local High School (Marion, Ohio) –Class Valedictorian –Inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame Ashland University –Dean’s List all semesters –Departmental Merit Scholar (Mathematics) –Magna Cum Laude –Bachelor’s of Science in Education Walden University –Master’s of Science in Integrating Technology in the Classroom

Coaching Experience Highlands HS (2011) –Assistant Varsity Football Coach –Class 4A State ChampsClass 4A State Champs Margaretta HS ( ) –Assistant Varsity Football Coach –Assistant Varsity Wrestling Coach –Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach Walnut Hills ( ) –Head Varsity Baseball Coach –Assistant Varsity Football Coach Bucyrus HS (2010) –Assistant Varsity Football Coach River Valley HS ( ) –Head Varsity Football Coach

My Math Classroom I am a firm believer in using technology. We will use graphing calculators, computer software, TI- Navigators, Smart Boards, Mimio, SmartView, etc. We will apply a functional approach to studying mathematics.

My Expectations I will hold students to the highest of standards, while covering the required curriculum. I believe in teaching responsibility, class, cooperation, teamwork, and courtesy as well as mathematics. I use current events to help show my students the importance of a quality mathematics education.

Teaching Current Events I use current events and literature to compliment my teaching strategies. I attempt to draw connections between the material being taught in class with news articles or top-selling books. Some of the books I use in my classroom are pictured at the left.

Extras I will hold study tables at least twice a week. I will compose a classroom newsletter. I will integrate science and writing skills into my mathematics classroom.

Family My wife, Theresa, and my daughter, Reagan, have a tremendous impact on my life. The concept of family will be stressed in my classroom.

Conclusion I have taught in two of the finest public schools in the nation (ranked 34 th nationally by NEWSWEEK), and will bring those same high expectations, professionalism, and standards into your classrooms. I believe in teaching more than just math. Responsibility, respect, and life-skills will be stressed in my classes. I am highly involved in extra curricular activities through coaching, chaperoning dances, and attending school functions.
