NCWISE Overview and Taking Attendance

Stanly County Schools ©2005 What is NCWISE? North Carolina Window of Information on Student Education A system allowing the capture and reporting of information about students throughout their careers in NC public schools. A commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software solution.

Stanly County Schools ©2005 Who will use NCWISE? NCWISE will operate in –115 LEAs; 100 charter schools –2250 public schools NCWISE will be used by –85,000 teachers –Administrators, counselors, support personnel NCWISE will serve 1,400,000 students

Stanly County Schools ©2005 User Roles Data Managers Principals, Assistant Principals Counselors, Nurses Classroom Teachers –Attendance –Grades –Basic Demographics SCS BOE Policy 3195 (proposed) - Only certified personnel may access NCWISE.

Stanly County Schools ©2005 Security Only certified personnel will access NCWISE. Users will use a unique password. –At least 8 characters (2 non-alpha) Users will change their password periodically. –Every 60 days is suggested Passwords will not be shared with others.

Stanly County Schools ©2005 Business Practices Attendance in high schools will be completed during the first 15 minutes of each block. Substitutes will use hard copy forms for recording attendance. Hard copy forms will be provided for all teachers in the event of a school wide disruption of internet service.
