By Maddy Moore Period 2

The City of Baghdad had a perfect location between two rivers. They also provided houses for citizens and military families. Overall, it was a great place to live at the time.

Medicines were very important at the time. The medicine given to patients helped with surgeries and wounds. They were so important that they had to be supervised when being prepared.

Hospitals were very important because they were designed to promote health, cure diseases, and teach medical knowledge.

Irrigation was very important because water was so scarce. Also, the Muslims needed lots of water because agriculture depended on this resource for their crops.

The new Banking System was pretty important for the Muslims because it ended confusion caused by too many currencies.

Algebra was important because Algebra was brought by the Muslims, and we still use it today. More specifically Al Khawazmi introduced it to the world of math!

The libraries were decently important to society because they promoted learning and intellectual life. These libraries helped people to become smarter.

Zoology was somewhat important because it was the study of animals. They used these animals for trade and travel, so it was good to have some knowledge.

The House of Wisdom was kind of important because it was an educational institution for all around the world to increase their knowledge. They also did things like translating and preserving Greek Classics.

Astronomy was a little bit important because they discovered things about the universe and invented the astrolabe. Even though they discovered cool things they didn’t do anything for the people.

Polo is on the lower end of importance because it was a physical recreational game that was played out of the state of competitiveness. Though, today it is played all around the world.

Bookmaking wasn’t very important because it just let people become interested in books but it didn’t make a drastic change in society.

Chess is not very important because it was widely popular among Caliphs rather than average citizens.

Once again, Music was mainly popular among Caliphs and royalty, which means not all citizens got the chance to enjoy it.

Calligraphy wasn’t very important because it was just used as a decoration to decorate textiles, ceramics, and metal works.

These were not important because they only purpose of them was for the enjoyment of the eye.
