Purpose Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is to educate our classmates about the different types of students and how they learn and process information. Characteristic of Each Type of Learner A visual learner are those who learn through seeing things. Auditory Learners Likes to read to self out loud Auditory learners are those who learn best through hearing things. The Best & Worst Test Type Visual Auditory Kinesthetic Best Diagramming, reading maps, essays, and showing a process. Reading passage and writing answers about them in a timed test. Short definitions, fill ins, and multiple choice. Worst Listen and respond test. Writing responses to lectures they have heard or oral exams. Long tests and essays. Communication Devices / Learners Auditory Learners: IPods Visual Learners: Computers and Smartphone's Computers, Ipads or Smartphones Kinesthetic Leaners: In this slide we identified some types of communication tools that are appropriate for different learners. For example: auditory learners would prefer to hear the information read to them. A good communication tool that would provide this service would be an ipod. A person could download lecturers or videos. Next a visual learner needs to see the images and therefore a computer or smartphone would be appropriate for this type of learner. Kinesthetic learners prefer to learn by touch. A computer, Ipad or Smartphone will lend itself to this functionality.

Program Tools that work for each Type of Learner Auditory Learner Natural Reader Audio Books Wave Pads Project Play List Visual Learner Mind Meister Thinkatuer Pictures4Learning Kinesthetic Learners Google Sketch up Class Marker Education Place During our research we found that there is specific software that are designed for each type of learner they are: natural reader, audio books, wave pads, and project play list for example for the auditory learner. For the visual learner there is programs like mind meister, thinkatuer, and pictures 4 learning. Google Sketch up, Class Marker, and Education Place or a few programs that Kinesthetic learners would find beneficial. Remember it is not always the way a learner prefers to learn that is important it is how they store and create memories of the information. That will be used later when they retrieve this information. People “typically store memories in terms of meaning-not in terms of whether you saw, heard or physically interacted with the information (Willingham, 2006)”. Processing Information with the use of Technology Technology such as smart phones used in the classroom can enhance the learning process and complement their individual learning style by allowing the student to immediately access information from the internet that will assist them in the understanding of a topic even if they do not have access to computers. Utilizing Smart phones for Educational Purposes Educators are starting to implement smart phone usage in the classroom and are realizing that they can enhance the educational process and competency of certain subjects such as algebra. Schools are coming to the realization that students need to be educated on and with the devices that they will use out in the real world in order to make students competitive in job markets. Combined with traditional educational methods, this concept will provide students with the necessary information literacy skills to succeed in an ever changing world Reference 3

How Students Learn Using Technology in the Classroom Most students today are versed on the usage of technology as a whole. Implementing technology in the classroom will allow the student to enhance those skills and give them an opportunity to expand their learning experience and educational success. Students today are not just interested in obtaining knowledge, they are concerned with the application of that knowledge and how it can enhance their lives. The usage of technology complements their learning style and assists the brain in creating synapses in the brain. Synapses are the neurological and electrical connections in the brain. This process allows for greater memory retention and the application of the information. Reference 4

Information Literacy Skills Using Technology Computers/laptops are still the most popular means of technology usage in classrooms today, however, smart phones are becoming increasingly popular and are a less expensive solution for schools that provide them to their students for educational usage. In Summary, allowing students to utilize technology in the classroom will give them an advantage in the real world and will aid in the creation of lifelong information literacy skills that will far surpass the classroom.
