1.CLASSIFICATION: AP TITLE OF REFERRAL: BIO 115/115L/115A, Basic Biology/Laboratory/Activity 3.BACKGROUND: The Department of Biological Sciences has submitted a proposal to modify the curriculum of BIO 115/BIO 115L. The proposal reduces the number of wet lab hours per week and adds an activity to be held in a space other than the lab. 4.RECOMMENDED RESOURCES: Nancy Buckley, Douglas Lewis, Frank Ewers, John Klasik, Perky Vetter, James Alderson, Daniel Hostetler, Alexander Hess, Don Hoyt, Claudia Pinter Luke.

5.DISCUSSION: The current status of BIO 115/BIO115L is as follows: BIO 115= 3 lectures/problem solving per week (3 units) BIO 115/L= 2 three-hour Laboratories per week (2 units) The proposed modification will be as follows: BIO 115= 3 lectures/problem solving per week (3 units) BIO 115 L= 1 three-jour laboratory per week (1 unit) Required corequisite to BIO 115 BIO 115 A= 1 two-hour activity/discussion session per week (1 unit). Required corequisite to BIO 115. All the recommended resources approved of the modification. The referral frees lab space while insuring quality student learning. 6.RECOMMENDATION: The Academic Programs Committee recommends approval of the Referral AP BIO 115/115L/115A, Basic Biology/Laboratory/Activity.
