IN SUPPORT OF CREATING A UNIVERSITY-WIDE ONE TIME EXCEPTION POLICY Senate Resolution 1015

Background One Time Exceptions are a form of Q drop that takes place after the Q-drop deadline and before the last day of class Students seeking an OTE must be receiving a D/F in the course prior to dropping OTEs currently exist in the College of Natural Sciences, School of Architecture, and School of Nursing This practice is currently against university policy

Purpose Bring students voice to the unpublicized issue of OTEs Resolve the current issue regarding the current existence of OTEs in 3 colleges and to give other colleges the ability to decide on the issue

Whereas Summary College of Natural Sciences offers many large enrollment introductory classes that students must take in their first year at UT  Many students who struggle in these courses are not properly evaluated on their progress until after the Q-drop deadline College of Natural Sciences is an open college that accepts students of all academic levels Students seeking to transfer into another college/program must have a GPA of at least 2.0 School of Architecture and School of Nursing uses OTEs rarely and for difficult upper level courses that students must take

Resolved/Summary Senate recommends the creation of a university wide OTE policy Individual colleges are able to opt into the university policy Each college have the ability to create their own requirements that meet the needs of the students  College administrators consult students, faculty, and advisors regarding the guidelines Basic guidelines of the university policy must be followed
