01/08/13 Warm up (write this in your notebook) 1.Using a scale of 1-5 (1-worst, 5-best), give yourself a score on how you did last semester in Biology (or your last science class). 2.Were you satisfied with that score? 3.Develop and write a goal that will set you up for Biology success this semester—prepare to share your answer with the class

Welcome to Biology! 01/08/13 Homework/Announcements- None First homework due block day Daily Plan:  Meet Emmett (and the anatomy of the female reproductive system)  Mrs. Lutz & Student Teaching/Expectations  New seats!!!  Intro to Genetics – Are You a Taster?

Mrs. Lutz and her husband want to build a house. She is a scientist and only thinks in genetic terms. Create an analogy with the words below to help her husband understand what she is talking about. Model Home Alleles Blueprint Cells Directions Genes Measurement, angle, tools Chromosomes Room Designs DNA

Welcome to Biology! 01/09/13 Homework/Announcements- Punnett square homework due friday Daily Plan:  What is a gene video  Review genetic terms, punnett squares  Practice punnett squares  Human trait activity Objectives:  Students will distinguish between genotype and phenotype by doing an inheritance activity  Students will have fun with punnett squares

Warm up: Everyone in Squidward’s family has light blue skin, which is the dominant trait for body color in his hometown of Squid Valley. His family brags that they are a “purebred” line. He recently married a nice girl who has light green skin, which is a recessive trait. Create a Punnett square to show the possibilities that would result if Squidward and his new bride had children. Use B to represent the dominant gene and b to represent the recessive gene. A. List the possible genotypes and phenotypes for their children. B. What are the chances of a child with light blue skin? ____% C. What are the chances of a child with light green skin? ____% D. Would Squidward’s children still be considered purebreds? Explain!

Welcome to Biology! 01/11/13 Homework/Announcements- Punnett square homework due today Genetics vocab due monday Daily Plan:  Who was Mendel???  Finish inheritance lab questions—white boards  Finish punnet squares, start vocab assignment Objectives:  Students will distinguish between genotype and phenotype by doing an inheritance activity  Students will have fun with punnett squares
