Turtles By Sanay Saboo

What are turtles? A turtle is a large marine reptile with a bony or soft shell that usually comes on the land to lay eggs. A turtle has long flippers or claws and a large beak which allows it to tear it’s food easily.

What are the body parts of a turtle? The carapace (Upper shell) The plastron (Lower Shell) Arms and legs Large claws Tail Nose Beak Ears Eyes

What vegetables should you feed a turtle? The common turtle likes to munch on veggies like carrots, cabbage, cucumbers, lettuce, spinach, sprouts (raw), parsley, coriander, fruit seeds etc.

What are my turtles’ species? One of my turtles is a Singaporean red eared slider named Dribble and another is a Malaysian map turtle called Crush. Red eared sliders are popular pets and you can easily take care of one. However, map turtles are slightly harder to take care of as items in their diet are hard to find.

What is the diet of a normal turtle? Turtles typically eat a lot of plants that grow in the water, small insects, snails, worms, and even dead marine animals and fish.. This is why many wild turtles are carnivorous when they are young and then gradually start eating plants and vegetation as they age.

What is the diet of a red eared slider? Red-eared sliders are omnivores. In the wild, they feed on aquatic vegetation, small fish and decaying material such as dead fish and frogs, etc. However, when kept as a pet, they will eat commercial food and vegetables. My turtle, Dribble enjoys a diet of green leafy vegetables, carrots and food pellets.

Where do you find red eared sliders? Red-eared Sliders are one of the most common turtles in the Puget Sound area. They can be found basking in the sun around Lake Washington and ponds in Western Washington. This turtle lives in ponds, lakes, marshes, and in slow-moving rivers that have soft, muddy bottoms.

What kind of habitat is proper for a map turtle? Map Turtles are mainly restricted to large, permanent water habitat such as rivers & large lakes, but are occasionally found in smaller water bodies such as permanent streams .Map turtles are avid baskers & require habitat with basking platforms.

How long do map turtles live? If properly cared for, map turtles will live from 15 to 100 years, depending on species. Map turtles can also die due to fatal diseases if not properly cared for. Cleaning of the habitat regularly is a necessity in order to prevent diseases from happening.

What are some turtle species? Some common turtle species are – Red eared slider African sideneck turtle Alligator snapping turtle Box turtle Eastern river cooter Yellow belly cooter Musk turtle Mud turtle Painted turtle
