Objectives

In September 2000, world leaders at the UN Millennium Summit agreed to set a time of bound and measurable goals and targets, called Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), to combat poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation and discrimination against women. The MDGs provide a framework for the entire UN system to work coherently together towards a common goal. Although it may seem that there is global progress towards the MDGs, this progress is too slow and uneven. A large majority of nations will reach the MDGs only if they get substantial support – advocacy, expertise and resources - from outside such as Non- Governmental Organizations (NGOs), such as JCI. MDGs What is the UN MDGs?

The MDGs consist of eight goals: Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empowerment Goal 4: Reduce child mortality Goal 5: Improve maternal health Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability Goal 8: Develop a global partnership for development For further information please visit: MDGs What is the UN MDGs?

NOMs with the top undergoing projects – already in action and with recorded results / benefits to their communities – that relate to any of the eight UN MDGs could have the great opportunity to present their project to the UN and the world. To be eligible, send a two page report to JCI with the following information: –Name of the Project –Name of your OLM and ONM – of the Project Coordinator –Website –Duration of the Project –Budget of the Project –Staff –Who is Benefited –Profit / Loss –Sponsors –Overview –Actions Taken –Results –Recommendations –Accomplishments top projects Take the opportunity!
