Minilesson: A commercial states “14 % of the dentists interviewed recommend Pest Toothpaste.” That means 14 out of every 100 recommend the toothpaste.
Minilesson (con’t): Percent helps us think within our decimal system. Percent comes from “per cent” meaning “per every hundred” [Like dollars per pound, mph, etc.] The word “cent” is found in our money system (a great analogy for percent.” The word “cent” is found in the words century and centimeters.
