Who were they? The Montford Point Marines were the first African American marines in US history

1942 was when they began accepting black males for the first time. When were they recruited?

Who lead this effort? FDR was the president that issued the executive order (No. 8802) that established fair employment practices for African Americans and was the one that issued the presidential directive enabling black males to be recruited into the Marines

Modern Implications The Montford Point Marines paved the path to desegregation and equality in the military by disproving anti-black stereotypes of the time
