The Beginning It all started when there were differences between China and America that caused them to go on the path to war. It all started with Japan conquering Manchuria. But the Japan soldiers were not happy with just that. So they went on to bomb the rest of China. In 1938 people in the larger cities were massacred by the Japanese soldiers.

 No more Oil  By 1939 all of the Americans heard about the terrible war going on in China. By the end of July 1941 Japan’s oil supply from America was cut off, so Government officials in Tokyo vowed to get their own oil by conquering Southeast Asia.

 No more Oil cont.  In 1939 a war broke out in Europe. So America came to the rescue and aided Great Britain, whose empire spread throughout Asia. In 1940 Japan signed a treaty with Italy and Germany (known as the Tripartite Pact). So Japans oil supply increased the range of the Nazi war ships.

Lots of Ships and Conflict  While assisting Great Britain in their endeavor, America sent out a fleet to boost the power of their army. This fleet deployed in May of President Roosevelt sent out a secret memo saying that having the fleet in Hawaii was not vital, because everyone else did not agree with the placing of the fleet.

The Attack!!/Hiroshima Everyone thought that Pearl Harbor was a naturally safe place to keep all their ships because nobody thought anything would happen to it. But that all changed on October 31, 1941… The day pearl harbor was attacked the clouds cleared so everyone could see the 183 Japanese planes in the sky as they approached Pearl Harbor. But Mitsuo Fuchida could not believe his eyes! He could not believe that the Americans did not know that the Japanese were going to attack. So even before the first bombs were fired, Mitsou Fuchida said the word that began World war two, TORA,TORA, TORA!

War Winston Churchill had hoped the US would join the war because his country was constantly being bombed by the Nazi Germany. In one of his most famous speeches, “this was their finest hour”, Churchill expressed concern about the words ability to withstand Adolf Hitler. “ If we can stand up to him (Hitler) all of Europe may be free and the life of the world may move forward into broad sunlit uplands. But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new dark age.” In a little while, Churchill would get his wish- the US had joined the war.

The Bomb Japan had no plans to stop fighting. President Truman had taken over after FDRS unexpected death and was now thinking about the united states secret weapon, the atomic bomb. It was just unsure whether he wanted to use it or not. 30 days later, U.S. government had decided to use it. But first, they decided to test it. Sure enough, it was good. A few days later, the bomb was loaded onto a plane to be dropped upon thousands.

Truman Approves After many debates, Truman finally decided that the bomb was necessary. Although nobody was exactly sure of the amazing devastation it would cause. A 13,000 – 15,000 ton bomb named “little Boy”, that was made of TNT was to be dropped on Hiroshima- nobody including the Americans were prepared for what they were about to see. Thousands were vaporized. Never in the history of warfare, had any weapon caused so much massive destruction. Some people even sustained burn patterns from heat waves on their clothes. A lot of people even developed a new sickness called radiation sickness. One more massive bomb was ready to be dropped on the city of Nagasaki. Of course, thousands died and the country was shocked.
